Welcome to the 2020 edition of the Nelo Summer Challenge and the ICF Ocean Racing World Championships!
The event will take place in Ofir, Esposende, Portugal, between 1 and 6 of September 2020.
The Race
It will be an open downwind race of 19.5Km, connecting Viana do Castelo to Ofir's beach in Esposende.
Date and Location
The 6 days will be the waiting period and the race will take place in the day with the best conditions.
The course will be 19.5km of downwind, with no upwind section, start and finish in the surf. The start will be a massive lineup, "Le Mans" style.
Safety
It's mandatory the use of a Personal Floating Device and an Emergency Flare!
Accommodation wise the options and prices are very similar to the previous years, with different types of offers for all needs, all extremely close to the race venue.
OC1
The NELO Summer Challenge will count with parallel competitions of OC1, in pair with the surfski race, of 19.5 km downwind.
Downwind Ocean Races
The course will be 19.5km of downwind, with no upwind section, start and finish in the surf. The start will be "Le Mans" style, in one massive lineup.

Classes
Juniors: 15 to 18
Under 23: 15 to 23
Masters: starting at 35 and having a subclass for each 5 year period. Example: 35-39
(years old)
Chicken run
For those less experienced, looking for an easier challenge, we will host a Chicken run on the day of the race on a shorter course to be disclosed.
SS2: Men, Women and Mixed
All competitors are automatically registered for the open class.
Course
Lifesaver Knockout Tournament
A 600 meter event, raced in Surfski's, with start and finish on the beach.
This will be a mono class event and take place in the day not chosen for the downwind, between saturday and sunday. So, if the best downwind conditions are set for saturday, then the downwind race will be saturday and the lifesaver tournament on sunday.
Boat details
A mono class, based on the Nelo Spec Ski for Surf Life Saving Racing.
Each participant will be given a boat with a specific color for each race.
Course Details
The start line will be in the beach, you will have to run to your boat, paddle 300 mt to the turn out in the ocean come back to the beach and run to the finish line on the sand.
This edition will count with an Outrigger Canoe competition - OC1.
The course will be the same as for the kayaks.
