Welcome to the 1st ICF Ocean Racing World Championships!

The event will take place in Vila do Conde, Portugal, between 12 and 14 of July.

As from now entries are open for the event, as an open event consisting of three races:

The World Championship start will be ranked (as from now that decision is with the OR comittee) still there will be an open race taking place at the same exact time in one massive start, including all age groups.

The 3 days will be the waiting period and the priority of the best conditions will be for Race 1 and then Race 2, with the Knockout filling the free day.

The course will be 22,5 km of downwind, with no upwind section, start and finish in the surf. The start will be "Le Mans" style using paddle lockers, the ones used in the famous "Sella" start.

Is mandatory the use of a Personal Floating Device and an Emergency Flare!

From April there will be a monthly "replica" event of the race to allow nationals and foreigners to get to know the location, the tides and much more. Dates will be announced in the beginning of every month to assure the best possible conditions.

Accomodation wise the options and prices are very similar to the previous years, there is at this point a limitation of 160 beds in this first sale, more will be available in different range and locations, being that this 160 beds are in the closer and best standard hotels in Vila do Conde. Additionally we have available bungalows and apartments one step away from the race.

Stand Up Paddle Board

The NELO Summer Challenge, in partnership with SUP Addiction Portugal, will count with a parallel competition of Stand Up Paddle Board, in pair with Race 001, of 8 km downwind.
The competition will feature the 12'6 class. But the event will be open to all other classes.

Downwind Ocean Races

The course will be 22,5 km of downwind, with no upwind section, start and finish in the surf. The start will be "Le Mans" style using paddle lockers, the ones used in the famous "Sella" start.

There will be 2 downwind races: Single Ski (World Championship Race) and Double Ski (World Championship Demo Race), taking place on 2 different days.

Classes

Juniors: 15 to 18
Under 23: 15 to 23
Masters: starting at 35 and having a subclass for each 5 year period. Example: 35-39
(years old)

All competitors are automatically registered for the open class.

Course

Lifesaver Knockout Tournament

A 800 meter event, raced in Surfski's, with start and finish on the beach.
This will be a mono class event and take place one week before the downwind races as an exhibition race at the Atlantic Surf Fest at Gaia (just a little south of Oporto) on July 7.

Transfer between Vila do Conde and Gaia will be provided.

Boat details
A mono class, based on the Nelo Spec Ski for Surf Life Saving Racing.
Each participant will be given a boat with a specific color for each race.

Course Details
The start line will be in the beach, you will have to run to your boat, paddle 400 mt to the turn out in the ocean come back to the beach and run to the finish line on the sand.

NELO Summer Challenge will have a parallel competition of Stand Up Paddle Board .
The competition will feature the 12'6 class. But the event will be open to all other classes.

This race is now a sanctioned event and the points will count for the World IOSUP Ranking! Ranking rules

The course will be the same as for the kayaks, but with early start.
